Four Impeachment Complaints Against VP Sara Duterte Now Officially in the Hands of the House Justice Committee
The House of Representatives officially referred all four impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Committee on Justice on Monday, formally kicking off what could become one of the most politically charged proceedings of 2026.
The latest — and fourth — complaint was filed just last Wednesday by lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera, endorsed by La Union 1st District Rep. Paolo Ortega V and Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. The complaints center on allegations of fund misuse, among other issues, during Duterte's time heading the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.
The VP's camp is not backing down. Spokesperson Michael Poa said they are "prepared to confront" the allegations through proper constitutional processes. Hindi raw sila takot, and they're ready to face whatever the House Justice Committee throws at them.
The timing is particularly dramatic: these impeachment proceedings against the Vice President are happening in parallel with her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, facing crimes against humanity charges at the ICC in The Hague. The Duterte family is now fighting legal battles on two completely different fronts — one domestic, one international.
Once the Justice Committee takes up the complaints, it will determine whether there's sufficient substance to move forward with formal impeachment proceedings. With four separate complaints now consolidated, the political pressure on VP Sara is mounting — and the committee's decision could reshape the Philippine political landscape heading into the 2028 election cycle.
