Epy Quizon Finally Graduates From DLSU — 30 Years After Dropping Out to Survive
Actor and director Epy Quizon just proved it's never too late. Thirty years after walking away from De La Salle University — just a thesis away from graduation — the 53-year-old has officially earned his college degree. And the whole internet is cheering.
In a deeply personal Instagram post, Epy shared a letter to his younger self. "Dear Self, 30 years ago, in 1996, you walked the halls of De La Salle University just a thesis away from graduation. Fear and circumstance pulled you away, and survival became more important than ceremony," he wrote. "But you made a promise."
The emotional post also honored his late father, the legendary Dolphy — the King of Comedy who never got to see this day. But Epy noted that his mother, now turning 80, did. "Today, you return — not as the young man who left, but as someone steadier, stronger, and faithful to his word," he said, standing in his toga in front of DLSU's iconic St. La Salle Hall.
In a followup post, Epy said the diploma wasn't just for him — it was about honoring his father's memory, giving his mother the "gift of completion," showing his siblings that perseverance runs in their blood, and proving to his children that a vow is sacred, no matter how long it takes. He thanked DLSU for welcoming him back after three decades.
Epy is known for standout roles in "Markova: Comfort Gay," "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral," "Pulang Araw," and "Voltes V: Legacy." He managed to finish his degree while rehearsing for the stage adaptation of Jun Robles Lana's "About Us But Not About Us." If that's not hustle and heart, we don't know what is.
