Eid Across PH: Prayers, Takbir, at Puno ng Pasasalamat ang Araw
Muslim communities across the Philippines marked Eid’l Fitr on Saturday, March 21, with prayers, gatherings, and thanksgiving after the end of Ramadan. The celebration happened a day later than the regular holiday that had been announced earlier, after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on the night of March 19.
Rappler’s report showed scenes of worship and community from several parts of the country, including Cotabato City, Quezon City, and Cebu City. In the Bangsamoro region, BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua led the Takbir at the Bangsamoro Government Center Grounds, where worshippers gathered for the sacred chant before Eid prayers.
In Quezon City, families also came together at the Quezon Memorial Circle to offer prayers and officially close the fasting month. Sa Cebu naman, Muslim families held their own Eid celebration at Plaza Independencia, turning the day into a visible moment of faith and togetherness outside the usual Manila spotlight.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. used the occasion to call on Filipinos to carry the values of Ramadan beyond the holy month. In his message, he said compassion, humility, patience, and charity should continue shaping families and communities even after the fast has ended.
Eid’l Fitr, known as the feast that breaks the fast, is one of the most important observances in Islam and follows a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. This year’s Philippine celebration became a mix of solemn devotion and joyful reunion—very tahimik in spirit, but full of meaning across different cities.
