Diesel Rollback Alert: Presyo Puwedeng Bumabâ ng Hanggang P6.50 Kada Litro Next Week
Diesel prices may roll back by as much as P6.50 per liter next week, giving motorists and the transport sector a much-needed break.
Motorists may finally get a bit of relief next week, with diesel prices expected to roll back by P5.50 to P6.50 per liter based on the latest industry estimate. Gasoline is also projected to go down, but by a much smaller P1 per liter only.
The updated forecast is bigger than the earlier estimate for diesel, which had pointed to a smaller rollback. According to the report, the projection is based on the Mean of Platts, Singapore, the benchmark used for refined fuel pricing in Southeast Asia.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said the possible price cut reflects favorable global market trends, as expectations grow that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran will hold. If the pattern continues, pump prices could ease further after weeks of punishing increases that squeezed drivers and household budgets.
The government is also preparing extra relief for the transport sector. Garin said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to decide next week on whether to suspend or reduce fuel excise taxes, a move that could lower pump prices by around P6 per liter for diesel and P10 per liter for gasoline if approved.
At the same time, officials said a P10-per-liter fuel subsidy pilot for public utility vehicles in Metro Manila is rolling out, while separate financial support programs for transport operators are also being lined up. For commuters, drivers, and small businesses, the next round of fuel price adjustments will be one of the most watched updates in the coming days.
