Motorists in the Philippines are facing another painful week at the pump after a fresh round of fuel price hikes took effect on April 7, pushing diesel prices close to the P150 per liter mark in parts of Metro Manila. The latest increases came as global crude markets remained volatile amid the continuing conflict in the Middle East.

Philstar’s April 8 price tracker showed estimated diesel prices at P148.60 per liter for Shell, P147.60 for Petron, P147.40 for Jetti, P146.75 for SeaOil, P146.80 for PetroGazz, and P143.80 for CleanFuel. For gasoline, the same tracker placed most RON95 prices at around P99 to P100 per liter, with Shell estimated at P100.20.

Kerosene also stayed painfully elevated. Based on the same price monitor, Shell’s kerosene was estimated at P164.10 per liter, while Petron and SeaOil were both at P163.10. The benchmark figures were based on Department of Energy NCR common prices from March 31 to April 6, plus the latest announced adjustments from oil firms.

Rappler reported that this marks the 13th straight week of gasoline price increases and the 15th consecutive week of hikes for diesel and kerosene. Among the latest adjustments, Shell raised diesel by P19.80 per liter, gasoline by P5.90, and kerosene by P9.10, while Petron increased diesel by P18.80, gasoline by P4.90, and kerosene by P8.10.

For commuters, delivery riders, transport operators, and households already dealing with inflation, the new pump prices add more pressure to daily budgets. If elevated global oil prices persist, consumers may have to brace for more expensive transport, delivery, and goods in the coming days.
