The Davao region is in crisis mode after a shear line brought continuous moderate to heavy rainfall starting February 19, triggering widespread flooding that has affected more than 85,600 families — that's over 302,000 individuals across the region. It's one of the worst flooding events in Mindanao this year.

According to the DSWD-Region 11, the flooding hit 191 barangays in 28 cities and municipalities. Rivers and creeks swelled rapidly, inundating low-lying communities with little warning. As of the latest report, 15,416 families (61,780 people) remain displaced — with 283 families in eight evacuation centers and the rest sheltering with relatives or neighbors.

Davao del Norte was the hardest hit with over 60,000 affected families, followed by Davao de Oro with 22,428 families and Davao Oriental with 3,036 families. The DSWD documented 23 damaged houses — 15 totally destroyed and 8 partially damaged. So far, ₱7.33 million in humanitarian assistance has been distributed, including family food packs and non-food items.

The military has stepped in to help. The 10th Infantry Division conducted an aerial survey over the weekend to assess the damage across parts of Davao de Oro, Agusan del Sur, and Davao del Norte. Major Gen. Alvin Luzon said the proactive assessment allowed swift resource allocation and focused response in the hardest-hit areas.

Monitoring and assessment operations are still ongoing as agencies coordinate with local governments and disaster offices. For the displaced families stuck in evacuation centers or cramming into relatives' homes, the wait for normalcy continues. Prayers for Davao. 🙏
