PAGASA Alert: Coron, Palawan Hits 'Danger Level' 42°C Heat Index — Stay Indoors If You Can
If you're in Coron, Palawan right now, PAGASA has one message for you: stay hydrated and limit your time outdoors. The state weather bureau warned that Coron will experience a 'danger level' heat index of 42°C on Thursday, March 5 — hot enough to pose serious health risks including heat stroke.
The heat index, or what weather experts call the 'apparent temperature,' factors in both air temperature and relative humidity to measure how hot it actually feels to your body. At 42°C, you're not just uncomfortable — you're in the zone where heat cramps and exhaustion are likely, and prolonged exposure can lead to heat stroke.
PAGASA classifies anything between 42°C and 51°C as 'danger level,' which is one step below the extreme danger category. The warning was issued based on the bureau's 5 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday, giving residents and tourists in Coron time to prepare.
For those who can't avoid going outside, PAGASA urges wearing loose, light-colored clothing, drinking plenty of water, and taking frequent breaks in shaded areas. The elderly, children, and those with existing health conditions are especially vulnerable during extreme heat events like this.
The scorching conditions come as the Philippines enters its traditionally hottest months. With PAGASA already warning about a possible El Niño hitting by mid-2026, this could just be the beginning of a long, punishing summer. Mag-ingat, mga kaibigan.
