Metro Manila commuters may gustong i-save ito early: LRT-1, LRT-2, at MRT-3 will all temporarily stop operations during Holy Week for annual maintenance. According to the report, the shutdown covers Maundy Thursday, April 2, up to Easter Sunday, April 5, before regular service resumes on Monday, April 6.

For LRT-1 riders, operator Light Rail Manila Corporation said the break will be used for necessary maintenance checks and critical upgrades. The company said these works are part of its effort to keep daily trips safe and smoother for passengers once operations restart after the holiday break.

LRT-2 will follow the same Holy Week pause, with trains stopping from April 2 to April 5 and resuming regular operations at 5 a.m. on April 6. MRT-3 will also be unavailable over the same dates, meaning commuters who usually rely on all three major rail lines need to prep alternative travel plans for those days.

May konting good news before the maintenance break, though: starting Monday, March 23, fares for LRT-2 and MRT-3 will be discounted by 50%. So habang papalapit ang Holy Week closure, riders still get a short window of cheaper train trips on two major lines.

The key move for commuters now is simple: plan ahead. If your regular route depends on the railways, expect the four-day shutdown and watch for bus, jeep, or ride-hailing alternatives before the holiday rush starts. Source: Rappler
