Cignal Stops PLDT's Winning Streak Cold, Takes Solo Lead in PVL All-Filipino Conference
The Cignal Super Spikers are back on top. After stumbling with a straight-set loss to the Nxled Chameleons, Cignal bounced back in emphatic fashion by taking down the PLDT High Speed Hitters 25-21, 25-29, 25-23 in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday.
The win snapped PLDT's three-game winning streak and put Cignal alone at the top of the standings with a 4-1 card, while the High Speed Hitters dropped to 3-1. It was a statement game — Cignal showed they're not giving up their position without a fight.
Erika Santos was the star of the match, spearheading the attack with 17 points built on 16 kills. She was relentless from start to finish. Vanie Gandler provided excellent support with her all-around game, finishing with 14 points on 12 kills and two blocks.
PLDT made things interesting late in the third set, cutting a 20-23 deficit down to 22-23. But a costly service error by Savi Davison handed Cignal the match point at 24-22. Davison tried to make up for it with a back-row attack, pero it wasn't enough — setter Gel Cayuna delivered the finishing touch to seal the deal for the Super Spikers.
Davison and Kianna Dy led PLDT's scoring with 14 and 11 points respectively, but it wasn't enough to overcome Cignal's balanced offense. With the conference heating up, the battle for the top spots is going to be intense. PVL fans, this season is delivering.
