Cebu Is Getting Its First EV Charging Stations — and It's Starting in Danao City with Delta Electronics
Electric vehicles are coming to the Visayas — for real this time. Delta Electronics Philippines, a global leader in power management and smart energy solutions, has partnered with the Danao City government to build EV charging infrastructure across Cebu province. The project was formally launched on February 3 at The Boardwalk in Danao City.
The installation will feature Delta's DC Wallbox 25kW fast charger and AC Max 22kW charging solutions, designed to support everything from e-buses and e-trikes to motorcycles and passenger electric cars. The chargers are being placed at a central government site to ensure access for both public and private EV users — a smart move for a city that's positioning itself as a green transport hub.
"This initiative directly supports our vision for modern, resilient, and environmentally responsible cities," said Danao City Mayor Ramon 'Nito' Durano III. "By investing in EV infrastructure today, we are positioning our city to contribute to long-term economic growth, energy efficiency, and improved quality of life." Delta Electronics brings serious global credentials to the table — the company has deployed over 3 million EV chargers worldwide. The Danao project complies with the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (RA 11697) and Department of Energy standards, meaning it's not just a showpiece but a standards-compliant installation that could serve as a template for other cities.
For a country where electric vehicles are still mostly a Manila thing, seeing EV infrastructure roll out in a mid-sized Cebu city is a significant milestone. If Danao can make it work, expect other LGUs sa Visayas at Mindanao to follow suit — lalo na ngayong diesel at gasoline prices keep climbing week after week.
