DepEd said it will start a series of orientations on the planned three-term school calendar for school year 2026-2027, signaling that the long-discussed schedule shift is moving closer to actual rollout. The department said the briefings will begin after the relevant policies are issued later this month.
In its statement, DepEd said the transition is part of a broader push to improve the quality of basic education, strengthen institutional planning, and better support schools in delivering the K to 12 curriculum. In short, hindi lang ito calendar tweak — the department is framing it as a system-wide adjustment.
The orientations will cover operational issues such as assessment and grading, lesson planning, Education in Emergencies, Flexible Learning Programs, and the strengthened work immersion component for senior high school. Regional and division officials, along with school heads, are set to go first.
Sessions for master teachers and classroom teachers are scheduled in May so they can still fully observe their 30-day break and will not be required to report during that rest period. DepEd said the goal is to give schools clearer guidance and avoid confusion before the next school year opens.
The change follows earlier approval by the Department of Economy, Planning and Development, which backed the three-term calendar to maximize actual learning time. Officials said the move could help reduce disruptions often caused by bad weather, holidays, and other recurring observances during the school year.
