Brillante Mendoza's 'Until She Remembers' Now Showing — Charo Santos, Barbie Forteza, and a Toronto Film Fest Screening Await
Award-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza's latest work, 'Until She Remembers,' is now playing in Philippine cinemas — and it's already headed for international recognition with a screening at the Siné Film Fest in Toronto, Canada on March 6. The drama features a powerhouse cast led by ABS-CBN president-turned-actress Charo Santos and Kapuso star Barbie Forteza.
The film tells the story of a grandmother (Santos) and her granddaughter (Forteza) in what's being described as a deeply emotional drama carrying meaningful life lessons. It's the kind of intergenerational story that Mendoza excels at — intimate, grounded, and quintessentially Filipino.
The supporting cast reads like a who's who of Philippine cinema: Angel Aquino, Albert Martinez, Boots Anson-Roa, Eric Quizon, Vince Rillon, Erlinda Villalobos, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, and Perla Bautista. With that kind of talent assembled, expectations are sky-high.
Mendoza, who won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009 for 'Kinatay,' continues to be one of the Philippines' most internationally recognized filmmakers. His work consistently bridges the gap between Filipino storytelling and global cinema audiences.
The Toronto screening at the Siné Film Fest — a festival dedicated to Filipino films — adds another feather to the film's cap. 'Until She Remembers' is produced by Centerstage Productions and Solar Pictures. If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth catching in theaters before it moves on to the festival circuit.
