If you thought this week's fuel prices were brutal, DOE Secretary Sharon Garin just dropped the bad news bomb: another massive oil price hike is coming next week, and it's going to be even worse.

Industry estimates suggest diesel could jump by another ₱19 to ₱22 per liter, while gasoline may rise by ₱14 to ₱17 per liter. If those projections hold, diesel prices could break the ₱100-per-liter mark, and gasoline could approach ₱90 per liter in some areas. Para sa mga commuters at drivers, this is a nightmare scenario.

The global oil crisis has been triggered by Iran's partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical chokepoints for the world's oil supply. The disruption is directly linked to the escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran in the Middle East, and it's causing the biggest supply disruption in years.

This week alone, fuel prices already spiked dramatically — gasoline rose by ₱7 to ₱13 per liter, diesel by ₱17.50 to ₱24.25, and kerosene by a jaw-dropping ₱32 to ₱38.50 per liter. Kerosene's increase was one of the highest single-week jumps in Philippine history.

Government officials are assuring the public na may enough supply pa naman — roughly 50 days' worth of petroleum stock. They're also coordinating with other Asian countries willing to supply fuel to the Philippines. But with no sign that the Middle East situation is calming down, motorists and businesses should prepare for even more pain at the pump.
