Biyahe Check Muna: MMDA, Toll Operators Push Holy Week Safety Mode for Motorists
MMDA and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.
Motorists heading out for Holy Week trips are being told to slow down, inspect their vehicles, and keep emergency hotlines within reach before hitting the road. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. both warned that traffic is expected to build up across major roads and expressways as more families travel for the long break.
The MMDA said drivers should do a full BLOWBAGETS check before leaving. That means checking the battery, lights, oil, water, brakes, air, gas, engine, tires, and even the driver’s own condition. Simple reminder lang, but it matters a lot when roads get packed and breakdowns can trigger long delays.
On the expressway side, MPTC said its Biyaheng Arangkada assistance program is active from March 27 to April 6 across NLEX, SCTEX, NLEX Connector, CAVITEX, CALAX, and CCLEX. The company said it increased personnel deployment for traffic control, incident response, and toll operations as the holiday rush builds.
The tollway operator also said roadside help stations have been positioned in key areas, medical teams are on standby at selected stops, and free 24/7 basic mechanical services are available at NLEX and SCTEX Rest and Refuel stations. Class 1 vehicles may also avail of free towing to the nearest exit during the covered period, while roadworks and lane closures are being suspended to keep traffic flowing.
Authorities are also reminding travelers to plan around peak hours and save the right contact numbers before leaving home. MMDA said motorists can call 136 for traffic concerns, while emergencies can be reported through 911. For many travelers, the message is clear: huwag bara-bara sa biyahe, because a little prep can save hours of stress on the road.
