Transport group MANIBELA is warning that a much wider protest could happen if the government fails to deliver on promises made to drivers and operators, adding fresh pressure to the already tense fuel price situation.

According to The Manila Times, MANIBELA chairman Mar Valbuena said the group held back from joining the transport strike on Thursday and Friday because it is still waiting for concrete government action instead of immediately escalating the protest.

Valbuena said the organization now has around 180,000 members spread across several sectors, including jeepneys, UV Express, TNVS, taxis, motorcycle riders, and delivery riders. That means any future action could affect more than just traditional public utility vehicles.

He said a strike would only push through if the government's commitments produce nothing. Kapag wala raw talagang nangyari, possible na sabay-sabay nang kumilos ang jeepney, TNVS, at UV Express members under their network.

The warning comes after PISTON and allied groups staged a two-day strike over soaring fuel prices and the suspension of a planned fare hike. If MANIBELA joins next time, commuters could be looking at an even bigger disruption.
