Bagyo Alert: Tropical Storm Nuri Forms Near PH — Pagasa Says Don't Panic Yet
A tropical depression lurking outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has intensified into Tropical Storm Nuri, Pagasa confirmed Wednesday. But before you start panic-buying canned goods — the weather bureau says the storm is unlikely to enter PAR directly.
Pagasa chief Nathaniel Servando said while Nuri itself has a slim chance of making a direct impact, its trough or extension is already affecting parts of Mindanao. Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental are experiencing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms as a result.
Servando warned that flash floods and landslides remain possible in those areas due to moderate to heavy rains. Meanwhile, the amihan or northeast monsoon continues to bring overcast skies and light rains to Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora over the next 24 hours.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also driven by the amihan. The rest of Mindanao, meanwhile, will see isolated rain showers or thunderstorms from localized weather activity, according to Pagasa's 5 a.m. advisory.
Bottom line: Nuri isn't heading our way, pero the effects are already being felt in Eastern Mindanao. Stay weather-aware, lalo na if you're in flood-prone areas.
