Baguio Hits 9°C — Pinaka-Malamig This Amihan Season, Metro Manila Ramdam Din ang Ginaw
Baguio City just recorded its coldest temperature this amihan season — a bone-chilling 9 degrees Celsius early Saturday morning, March 14. If you thought the cold season was winding down, think again. PAGASA confirmed the reading, making it the lowest so far during this northeast monsoon period.
And it wasn't just the City of Pines feeling the chill. Metro Manila got its own cold snap too — Quezon City logged a low of 19.7°C, one of the coldest NCR readings during this amihan period. Even people in the capital were reaching for their jackets and blankets, which is pretty rare for a tropical city.
PAGASA data showed that several areas across Northern and Central Luzon also experienced unusually cool mornings. Basco in Batanes came in second at 17.2°C, followed by Casiguran, Aurora at 18.4°C. Other chilly spots included Aparri, Cagayan (19°C), Laoag City (19.6°C), and Dagupan City (20°C).
Weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the amihan surge is expected to continue blanketing the entire archipelago for the next 24 hours. Cloudy skies with light rains are expected over the Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Dinagat Islands.
For the rest of Metro Manila and most of the country, expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. So enjoy the cool weather habang nandyan pa — summer heat is just around the corner.
