Heads up, Pilipinas — the cool days of amihan season are almost over. PAGASA said Wednesday that the northeast monsoon is now only affecting extreme Northern Luzon, specifically Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, while the rest of the country is increasingly dominated by warm, humid easterlies blowing in from the Pacific.

PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the amihan is still bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains up north. But for most Filipinos — from Metro Manila down to the Visayas and Mindanao — it's the easterlies calling the shots, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, especially in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.

For Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Nothing severe — but the humidity is climbing. De la Cruz-Galicia noted that humid conditions are "gradually becoming more noticeable, especially during the afternoon and evening," as amihan nears its end.

The good news? No low-pressure area is expected to develop within the Philippine Area of Responsibility over the next two to three days. No gale warning is in effect either, meaning sea conditions are generally safe for small boats and fishing vessels.

Translation: stock up on fans and cold water. The amihan is wrapping up, the easterlies are taking over, and summer heat is right around the corner. PAGASA hasn't made it official yet, but the shift to the hot dry season is practically here.
