Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala has reached a new career-high ranking of World No. 31 in the latest WTA rankings released Monday — jumping a massive 16 spots from her previous 47th position.

The 20-year-old’s surge came after an impressive quarterfinal finish at the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she stunned world No. 8 Jasmine Paolini in the second round before falling to world No. 4 Coco Gauff in the quarters, 0-6, 2-6. The run earned her 215 ranking points, bringing her total to 1,432.

Eala’s previous best was 40th, achieved just two weeks ago on February 9. To jump 16 places in a single week is a testament to how far the young Filipina has come on the global stage. Ang galing talaga!

Next up for Eala: her WTA 1000 Indian Wells debut in March, followed by a return to the Miami Open where Jessica Pegula ended her dream semifinal run last year. Indian Wells, dubbed ‘the fifth Grand Slam’ with its 96-player field, will be another huge test.

With Aryna Sabalenka (10,870 points), Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina atop the rankings, Eala is closing the gap on the world’s best. At just 20 years old, the sky’s the limit for the Philippines’ brightest tennis star.
