Advent Upgrade Solar Inc. (AUSI), a joint venture between Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables and Upgrade Energy Philippines, has officially launched commercial operations for two new solar projects that boost the country's clean energy capacity. The milestone was made possible with vital financing support from the Bank of the Philippine Islands.

The two projects are now supplying power to different parts of Luzon. The first provides solar energy to Kinpo Electronics (Philippines) Inc. in Lima, Batangas — one of the country's key industrial zones. The second supplies renewable energy to Balesin Island, the exclusive resort destination off the coast of Polillo, Quezon.

BPI's role as the primary financier underscores the growing involvement of major Philippine banks in funding sustainable infrastructure. The partnership between BPI, AboitizPower, and AUSI was formalized in a ceremony attended by key executives from all three organizations.

AUSI is represented by Upgrade Energy Philippines President and AUSI Chairman Ruth Yu-Owen, alongside BPI Senior Vice President for Institutional Banking Barbara Untalan and Aboitiz Power CFO Juan Alejandro Aboitiz. The collaboration highlights how the private sector is stepping up to accelerate the country's energy transition.

The launch comes on the heels of the Department of Energy's recent order requiring all large solar and wind farms to add battery storage — signaling that the Philippines is getting serious about making renewable energy not just available, but reliable. With more projects in the pipeline, AboitizPower's distributed renewables arm is positioning itself as a major player in the country's green energy future.
