64% ng Pinoy Gustong I-Ban ang Political Dynasties — But Mindanao Has a Different Take
A big majority of Filipinos are done with political dynasties. According to the latest Pulse Asia "Ulat ng Bayan" survey released Friday, March 13, a solid 64 percent of Filipino adults support the passage of a law that would ban political dynasties in the country. Only 17 percent disagreed, while 19 percent remain undecided.
The survey, conducted from February 27 to March 2, 2026, shows strong support across most regions. Metro Manila came in at 69 percent, the rest of Luzon at 74 percent, and the Visayas at a whopping 73 percent. Class ABC (upper-to-middle class) respondents were at 70 percent support, while Class D ("masa") showed 66 percent agreement.
But here's where it gets interesting: Mindanao told a different story. Support there was only at 32 percent, with 39 percent actually opposing the measure and 29 percent undecided. Among Class E (the poorest Filipinos), opinions were nearly split — 36 percent for and 41 percent against.
Among supporters, 76 percent believe the ban should cover BOTH national and local elective positions — not just one or the other. The survey also found that around 69-72 percent of respondents want to prohibit relatives from holding the same government posts consecutively or simultaneously. About 70 percent even support limiting families to just two candidates per election — one national, one local.
The Constitution already has a provision against political dynasties, but Congress has never passed the enabling law to define and enforce it. With midterm elections approaching and these survey numbers, the pressure on lawmakers to finally act is mounting. The question is: will the politicians whose families benefit from dynasties actually vote to end them?
