19-Year-Old Maritime Student Kenneth Alcedo Killed in Brutal Cavite Hazing — Suspect Surrenders
A 19-year-old freshman maritime student is dead after what authorities say was a brutal fraternity initiation in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Kenneth Alcedo, a student of PNTC Colleges who dreamt of becoming a seaman to help his family, was brought to a hospital in General Trias City last Sunday — already lifeless upon arrival at the emergency room.
The details are harrowing. Kenneth's body bore severe injuries: both thighs had turned completely black from repeated beatings, his hands were crushed with pliers, and his back was covered in bruises. In what can only be described as pure torture, his attackers also applied chili seeds to his private parts and anus. His father Jun Alcedo said there was no 'brotherhood' in what happened — only an intent to kill.
CCTV footage from the hospital captured three men in a gray Mitsubishi Mirage dropping off Kenneth's unconscious body. The driver attempted to flee immediately, while two hoodie-wearing companions initially stayed but also managed to escape after a security guard briefly held them. The car was later found abandoned three barangays away, with a school ID and fraternity uniforms inside.
On Tuesday, the driver — identified only as alias 'JM,' also a student at a maritime school — surrendered to the General Trias police. Cavite Police Provincial Director Colonel Ariel Red confirmed the suspect is now in custody. Authorities believe at least 15 more suspects are involved, most of them students at the same school, and are actively hunting them down.
Senators have called for a manhunt against all suspects, who face charges under the Anti-Hazing Law carrying a penalty of lifetime imprisonment. Kenneth's mother Gemma said she thought her son would achieve his dream at school — instead, it's where his life ended. Kenneth had told his parents he was going on an outing that Sunday morning. The next time they saw him was at a funeral parlor.
