Moviegoers are sure to have a difficult time choosing which flicks to watch during the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) at the end of the year.

This is because all the eight movies selected by the MMFF Executive Committee have certified celebrities in them, some of actually starring in films that ended up being the top grossers in previous MMFFs.

Vice Ganda will be back in this year’s MMFF with his movie with Anne Curtis titled “The Mall, The Merrier” under ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc./Viva Films. Vice is actually the most successful actor in the history of the MMFF, as his films emerged as top grossers in the previous editions of the annual film fest.

These include “The Super Parental Guardians”, “Fantastica”, “Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad”, “Beauty and the Bestie”, “The Amazing Private Benjamin”, and “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy”.

But he is expected to get tough competition from other actors that also had highest-grossing MMFF films as well.

Bossing Vic Sotto, for one, heads the cast of “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” underAPT Entertainment, Inc/M-ZET Production.Making it an even formidable MMFF entry is the addition of phenomenal actress Maine Mendoza. Bossing Vic starred in top grossers “My Little Bossings”, “My Bebe Love” (also with Maine and the other half of Aldub Alden Richards) and “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” and the other movies in the “Enteng Kabisote” series.

The best pairing, however, in terms of previous MMFF earnings, is that of Coco Martin and Ai-Ai delas Alas for the movie “3pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon”, also starring Jennylyn Mercado, under CCM Productions.

Coco starred in top grossers “Beauty and Bestie”, “Ang Panday”, and “Feng Shui 2”.

Ai-ai, on the other hand, had huge MMFF successes in “Sisterakas” (also with Vice), “My Bebe Love”, “Enteng ng Ina Mo”, and “Ang Tanging Ina Nyong Lahat”.

Jennylyn, of course, starred in the movie “English Only, Please”, which also did well in 2014.

Judy Ann Santos, meanwhile, is pairing with Allen Dizon for the entry “Mindanao” under Centerstage. Judy Ann’s MMFF top grosser includes “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” and “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo”.

The other entries to the 2019 MMFF are:

  • Write About Love, starring Rocco Nacino and Yeng Constantino, Joem Bascon and Miles Ocampounder TBA Studios
  • Culion, starring Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Meryll Soriano under iOptions Ventures Corp
  • Miracle in Cell #7, starring Aga Muhlach and Bela Padilla under Viva Communications, Inc.
  • Sunod, starring Carmina Villaroel, Mylene Dizon, Susan Africa, and Kate Alejandrino under TEN17P.

Fans finally got a glimpse of the much-hyped movie of Kapuso’s Maine Mendoza with Kapamilya’s Carlo Aquino titled “Isa Pa With Feelings”, with Black Sheep Productions releasing the first official teaser of the flick.

The 1 minute and 32 seconds teaser gave the viewing public a good idea of the character of Carlo, who plays the role Gali, a deaf sign language teacher.

One of the scenes showed Carlo teaching Maine (named Mara in the movie) how to communicate the word “Sorry!” in sign language multiple times so she could deliver it with feelings.

There was also a scene where the two characters met for the first time inside an elevator, with Gali already thinking of communicating with Mara, but opted not to, prompting him to tell himself,” Ang torpe ko talaga”. Mara actually tried to talk to Gali, but she thought she was ignored, as she didn’t know yet that Gali was deaf. The next scene showed Gali seeing Mara dancing at the balcony of the same condo where he also lives, making him happy that they are actually neighbors. Another scene showed the two dancing together.

“Isa Pa With Feelings” is Maine’s first starrer sans Alden Richards. The two rose to stardom as the Eat Bulaga love team AlDub.

Alden just became the Philippines’ new box office king after his movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye” opposite Kathryn Bernardo raked in about P1 billion in revenues to bag the title as the highest grossing Philippine movie of all time.

Maine has been a consistent top trending topic on social media, with her fandom tweeting a lot about their excitement over her forthcoming movie with Carlo. #MaineMendoza and #AldenRichards are often the Philippine top trending topics on Twitter.

Alden’s newest series with GMA Network, “The Gift”, had its first airing on Monday.

“Isa Pa With Feelings” will hit the cinemas on October 16. There will also be several block screenings scheduled for the flick. The movie is directed by Prime Cruz. It is under Black Sheep Production, which belongs to ABS-CBN Films group.

Don’t be surprised if you are now seeing more of #ArMain than #AlDub.

This is because netizens are now clamoring for a movie that would feature ABS-CBN’s Arjo Atayde and GMA’s Maine Mendoza.

The two have been rumored to be in a relationship for a long time, and it was only recently that people are getting confirmation that they are really romantically involved.

While the fandoms of Maine and Alden Richards, the other half of AlDub, campaign on social media against any plan to pair the two in another movie via the #NoToALDUBMovie, netizens are now also saying this is the time for an #ArMaine flick.

It was Alden who first did a cross-over film with a Kapamilya star, when he paired up with Kathryn Bernardo for the blockbuster movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye”, which is poised to break the P1-billion revenue mark when it ends its run in cinemas. This will make “Hello, Love Goodbye” the highest-grossing flick in the Philippine movie industry.

The social media is populated with tweets about Arjo and Maine, as well as their photos and videos together. The networks also couldn’t avoid tracking and reporting updates on their relationship.

Maine is getting praises for being open about his relationship with Arjo, and how she managed to continue keeping and growing her fanbase despite the end of the AlDub era.

Kapamilya’s veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez, Arjo’s mother, also commended Maine for acknowledging in public her relationship with Arjo.

Now, #ArMaine is one of the most-followed couples on social media, making a movie starring the two more compelling.
