The clamor from fans to stop the guesting of Senator Bong Revilla in Alden Richards’ primetime TV series “The Gift” continues to gather steam. But, of course, there are opinions to the contrary, and the pressure is now on the Kapuso Network to decide if it would push through with the plan.

The hashtag #NoToBongRevillaOnTheGift was filled with negative sentiments from netizens on the senator’s appearance in “The Gift”. Many are saying that this would tarnish the image of Alden and the series, as Revilla just figured in a plunder case.

A tweet by @marcinareus02 said: “Taking a political, and more importantly a moral stand. It’s not enough that he was not made to pay for his plundering, but to use the show to improve his image. Isn’t a corrupt politician one of Sep’s oppressors?” Sep is the character being played by Alden in the GMA 7 series, which just entered its second month of airing.

Even veteran talk show host, columnist and talent manager Lolit Solis is being bashed for pushing the addition of Revilla in the cast of “The Gift”.

The talent manager, in her column in the Pilipino Star Ngayon published on Friday (November 15), discredited the attack against Revilla, saying those who oppose his guesting in “The Gift” are not really fans of Alden. She also said Revilla’s appearance in the series is a show of gratitude for what the senator did in the past to help jumpstart the career of Alden.

“Alam ng mga tunay na nagmamahal kay Alden kung paano ito inalagaan ni Bong noong bago pa lang siya sa showbiz. Nakasama ni Bong si Alden sa kanyang television show at pelikula noon. Madalas purihin ni Bong ang pagiging matiyaga at masipag ni Alden. Lagi rin niyang sinasabi noon na malayo ang mararating ni Alden at nangyari na nga ito,” Solis said.

But the netizens wouldn’t have any of this. @sisaisagani said in her tweet: “Who will believe the scam queen? … take it, take it … ang daling makalimot ng pinoy kaya madaling mauto #NoToBongRevillaOnTheGift.” @sisaisagani was alluding to the manipulation of the results of the Best Actor and Best Actress awards in the 1994 Metro Manila Film Festival involving Solis.

@jeannieDV commented:  “Believe it Ms. Lolit! The #NoToBongRevillaOnTheGift ht was from us, legit fans of #ALDENRichards who are not fence-sitters. We take a stand!

And it’s a legit call to @gmanetwork to please sit & discuss what you’re planning to do. Not just for TheGift but for that show for kids!”

As of 9 a.m. on September 16, #AldenRichards already had more than 73.5K tweets, way more than the Filipinos’ rants on the decision of some city mayors in Metro Manila not to suspend classes despite the heavy rains due to Habagat (monsoon).

#MaineMendoza, the hashtag of Maine, who is Alden’s other half in the TV love team AlDub, was actually the second most tweeted topic of day, with already more than 56.8K tweets and counting. Fans are tweeting a lot about Maine’s forthcoming movie with Carlo Aquino titled “Isa Pa With Feelings”.

Maine’s movie with Carlo follows the highly successful crossover film “Hello, Love, Goodbye” of Alden with Star Cinema opposite  Kapamilya’s Kathryin Bernardo. The flick, which was filmed in Hong Kong, just became the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time with about P1 billion in revenues.

The GMA Network said the inspirational soap “The Gift” tells the story of Sep (Alden) as a street-smart, high-spirited and visually impaired vendor in Divisoria who will be blessed with the gift to perceive past and future events.

Alden even undergone blind immersion training “to be able to fully understand the culture of the visually impaired people, shared his realizations upon accepting the challenging role,” according to the Kapuso network.

“Sometimes we take things for granted, normal lang na nakakakita tayo but once na mawala siya, parang that really got me. Actually, nalungkot ako ng ma-experience ko kasi ang hirap mawalan ng paningin. After that immersion, I interviewed people who can see before sila nabulag and na-inspire ako sa kanila na tipong ‘what can be my contributions to society now that I’m blind? Iyon ‘yung gusto kong mabaon ng mga manonood sa The Gift – bibigyan natin sila ng peak sa mundo ng mga taong hindi nakakakita para mas maintindihan natin sila,” GMA quoted Alden as saying.

According to GMA’s teaser on the series, playing important roles in the life of Sep are the members of the Marcelino family: Christian Vasquez as Javier, Nadia’s unfaithful second husband who is a shrewd businessman and a controlling father to his son whom he aspires to be a politician; Martin del Rosario as Jared, son of Nadia and Javier who is always out to please his father and will make use of Sep’s gift for his personal interests as a young politician; Ysabel Ortega as Sabina, brat but good-natured daughter of Nadia and Javier; Betong Sumaya as Asi, the trusted assistant and driver of Javier and Jared; Tetay as Tonya, Nadia’s best friend and Javier’s wealthy cousin; Rochelle Pangilinan as Francine, Javier’s feisty and entitled executive assistant and mistress; Luz Valdez as Puring, Javier’s doting grandmother who took care of him when his parents passed away.

Giving life and meaning into Sep’s journey are: Elizabeth Oropesa as Lola Char, Sep’s adoptive grandmother who saved him from an attempted kidnapping in Quiapo when he got lost as a kid; Victor Anastacio as Andoy, comical leader of young delinquents in Divisoria who adores Amor; Mikoy Morales as Bistek, outgoing friend of Sep and Amor who sells anything under the sun in Divisoria; Thia Thomalla as Faith, fancied by Sep and dubbed as the ‘Princess of Divisoria’ for her beauty and for being the daughter of a wealthy fabric store owner; Mikee Quintos as Amor, a spunky vendor who secretly admires Sep; Jo Berry as Strawberry, Sep’s adoptive and overprotective mother who doesn’t let her disability get in the way of providing for her family; and Ms. Jean Garcia as Nadia, Sep’s biological mother who loses her faith in God after the death of her first husband and the disappearance of her son.

The Gift also features the special participation of TJ Trinidad as Gener.

Even Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr. couldn’t resist publicly praising and congratulating Kapuso actor Alden Richards, whose movie with Kapamilya Kathryn Bernardo, “Hello, Love, Goodbye”, just became the highest grossing Filipino film of all time.

Locsin, departed from his fiery tweets involving international and local issues, to praise on Twitter the good traits of Alden. Locsin engaged fans of Alden in a series of tweets and even promised to watch the hit Alden-Kathryn movie.

And in his tweet at around 11 a.m. on Friday (September 6), Locsin said: “Watching it this afternoon. I’m making time for this. I don’t care if war breaks out so long as it doesn’t interrupt the movie.”

Before that, Locsin said of Alden: “ “I came across him once. He was shy and modest. And look now at this. No one deserves it more.”

“Not often you see one who has it all but acts as humbly as though he hadn’t any of it; only other one like that is my idol Robin Padilla who has the well-merited self-confidence to make the fun of himself while having a great deal of fun at it.”

Last Tuesday, ABS-CBN announced that the Star Cinema-produced movie already grossed  P880,603,490 for its worldwide run, eclipsing the previous record set by the Kathryn-Daniel Padilla flick “The Hows of Us”.

Actor Alden Richards was again the top trending topic on Twitter as he continues to receive kudos and praises for his recognition at the 14th Seoul International Drama Awards on Wednesday night in South Korea’s capital.

As of 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday (August 28), the hashtag #ALDENxSeoulDramaAwards already had over 160,000 tweets.

The 27-year-old actor, whose movie with Kapamilya’s Kathryn Bernardo titled “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is well on track to become the top-grossing Filipino film of all time, received the Asian Star Prize.

The Twitter showed photos and videos of Alden at the gala night, from his red carpet walk and photo-op, to his speech on stage when he received his trophy and post-award message.

Alden said in his speech: “As a Filipino, I am very humbled and grateful to be recognized in the international scene, along with so many amazing and talented artists here tonight. This award is extra special because it comes at a time when we are celebrating 70 years of friendship between the Philippines and South Korea… It’s always our hope to make people happy and inspire them with our passion. Thank you.”

The “aldenrichards02” Instagram handle of Alden Richards, the Kapuso star who scaled even greater heights when he paired with Kapamilya actress Kathryn Bernado, now has over 3 million followers.

The big rise in Alden’s IG followers is credited to his highly successful flick with Kathryn, “Hello, Love, Goodbye”,which is poised to become the highest grossing Filipino movie ever before it ends its worldwide cinema run.

Alden’s Twitter account @aldenrichards02, meanwhile, still has more social media trackers with over 5.4 million followers.

Still, Alden was so grateful with the new milestone reached by his IG handle, that he quipped “3M na tayo…I don’t love you.”

This is the iconic line of Alden’s character (Ethan) in the movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye.” The context of this line in the movie, of course, was the opposite. One of Ethan’s actual lines was: “Kaso gusto kita eh, so sorry, I don’t love you.” Before saying this, Ethan told Joy (Kathryn’s character) that when he doesn’t like a girl, he would already tell her “I love you”, to make her leave instantly.

Alden and Kathryn’s movie already exceeded the P800-million revenue mark before the August 24-26 long weekend in the Philippines (counting the August 26 holiday).

It now only trails “The Hows of Us” starring Kathryn and real-life boyfriend Daniel Padilla, which earned P915 million for its entire run, as the highest-grossing Philippine movie of all time.

With “Hello, Love, Goodbye” still being shown locally and internationally up to next month, it is now seen to become the first Filipino movie to hit the P1-billion mark in gross revenues.

Alden remains a contract star of GMA7, where he became a hit opposite Maine Mendoza for the “Eat Bulaga” pairing AlDub, which still has a cult following up to now. Alden’s next project with GMA7 is the primetime series “The Gift”, which is set to air in September.

Don’t be surprised if you are now seeing more of #ArMain than #AlDub.

This is because netizens are now clamoring for a movie that would feature ABS-CBN’s Arjo Atayde and GMA’s Maine Mendoza.

The two have been rumored to be in a relationship for a long time, and it was only recently that people are getting confirmation that they are really romantically involved.

While the fandoms of Maine and Alden Richards, the other half of AlDub, campaign on social media against any plan to pair the two in another movie via the #NoToALDUBMovie, netizens are now also saying this is the time for an #ArMaine flick.

It was Alden who first did a cross-over film with a Kapamilya star, when he paired up with Kathryn Bernardo for the blockbuster movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye”, which is poised to break the P1-billion revenue mark when it ends its run in cinemas. This will make “Hello, Love Goodbye” the highest-grossing flick in the Philippine movie industry.

The social media is populated with tweets about Arjo and Maine, as well as their photos and videos together. The networks also couldn’t avoid tracking and reporting updates on their relationship.

Maine is getting praises for being open about his relationship with Arjo, and how she managed to continue keeping and growing her fanbase despite the end of the AlDub era.

Kapamilya’s veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez, Arjo’s mother, also commended Maine for acknowledging in public her relationship with Arjo.

Now, #ArMaine is one of the most-followed couples on social media, making a movie starring the two more compelling.

“Hello, Love, Goodbye” earns P176.6M in 4 days

“Hello, Love, Goodbye”

As of August 3, or after four days of showing, the Alden Richards-Kathryn Bernardo romantic movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye” has already raked in over P176 million in cinema receipts, Star Cinema announced.

The movie is now being shown in 465 cinemas nationwide, a record in the Philippine showbiz industry.

Star Cinema shouted on its official website: “Hello, Love, Goodbye has earned P176,637,000.05 after just four days in cinemas!

The Cathy Garcia-Molina film has officially taken the country by storm, touching the lives and hearts of millions. It tells the story of Joy (Kathryn Bernardo), a millennial OFW who met Ethan (Alden Richards), a Pinoy bartender in Hong Kong. It was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.”

It is now also on course of beating the all-time Philippine box office record of P900 million in gross earnings currently held by “The Hows Of Us”, which starred Kathryn and her boyfriend Daniel Padilla in 2018.

The strong showing of “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is being credited to the full support of the combined fandom of KathNiel, AlDub, GMA Kapuso and ABS-CBN Kapamilya, who braved the heavy rains caused by Hanging Habagat (southwest monsoon) just so they could see personally if the much-hyped on-screen chemistry between Kathryn and Alden is true. And they did not go home disappointed.

Entertainment columnists are now harping the possibility of another project of Alden and Star Cinema, with Bea Alonzo as the next leading lady.

Alden, himself, had said he wants to do a movie with Bea, and it seems Star Cinema will be granting his wish soon, especially with the good work ethic he displayed in the filming of “Hello, Love, Goodbye” even if he is from the rival network.
