Matteo Guidicelli is off the hook after the bodyguard he reportedly punched accepted P200,000 settlement

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

If the reports are true, Matteo Guidicelli is now off the hook after the bodyguard who accused him of physical assault right after his wedding with Sarah Geronimo last February 20 has agreed to a cash settlement.

This was through the efforts of Viva Entertainment Chairman Vic del Rosario, who met with Sarah’s bodyguard Jerry Tamara last February 26 in his office. Tamara, in the meeting, was accompanied by Raffy Tulfo, who was approached by Tamara for help.

Sarah and Matteo were also supposed to be there at the Viva office meeting, but del Rosario said they have to fulfill commitments with their TV station ABS-CBN that day.

According to a report of ABS-CBN, Tamara agreed to accept P200,000 as settlement. He will no longer file charges against Matteo Tamara claimed that Matteo punched him on the neck for informing Sarah’s mother, Divine, of their wedding. Before this, there was a heated exchange of words between the camps of Divine and Matteo at a hotel in Bonifacio Global City.

The wedding was kept secret to the public, although columnist Ricky Lo broke the story in his column in the Philippine Star. On the day of the wedding, Sarah even attended the taping for her program in ABS-CBN. She only wore a T-shirt when she exchanged “I dos” with Matteo.

According to ABS-CBN, Tamara initially demanded P1.5 million as settlement, but del Rosario countered with P100,000. Because of this, the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

Two days later, however, Tamara reportedly accepted the P200,0000 offer from Viva, the outfit handling Sarah and Matteo.

‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’ prequel shows Teddie, Bobbie, Alex and Gabbie 10 years prior

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Netizens expressed reservations over the decision of Star Cinema to produce a prequel of the 2013 hit movie “Four Sisters and a Wedding”, particularly since relatively new actresses will be taking on the characters played by Bea Alonzo, Angel Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao in the original movie.

In the original, Toni played the character of Teddie, Bea was Bobbie, Angel was Alex and Shaina was Gabbie. All of them went home in preparation for the wedding of their brother, who was played by Enchong Dee.

Star Cinema’s new project, on the other hand, stars Alexa Ilacad as  Bobbie, Gillian Vicencio as Alex, Charlie Dizon as Teddie, and Belle Mariano as Gabbie.  It was titled “Four Sisters Before the Wedding”.

@HijiXian commented on Twitter: “ Hopefully these young actresses would really give justice to the characters of Teddie, Bobbie, Alex, and Gabbie.”

https://twitter.com/HijiXian/status/1233027273323728897?s=20

@HiJakeeeee said: “STILL THE BEST AND MOST ICONIC FILIPINO FILM EVER MADE! No one can replace Teddie, Bobbie, Alex and Gabbie and their impacts to my heart. Bakit hindi na lang gumawa ng sequel instead of prequel na iba na yung casts? Hmm”.

The setting of the prequel, also written by Vanessa Veldez, is 10 years before the original’s movie’s plot.

To make sure they will do justice to the characters and the original actresses who played them, youngsters Ilacad, Vicencio, Dizon and Mariano will be getting tips from their veteran counterparts.

“Actually idol ko po talaga si Miss Toni and Miss Bea so nakakakaba kung makikita ko po siya sa personal at matatanong ko kung ano ang dapat niya i-advise. Sana po magka-chance na makapagbigay siya ng tips kung paano ang essence ng character and kung ano ang mga nuances or ano yung mga dapat tandaan sa eksena,” Dizon said.

Sarah’s bodyguard to Matteo: You punched me on the neck and you know it’s the truth

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Sarah Geronino’s bodyguard Jerry Tamara said on Monday (February 24) that he will file formal charges against Matteo Guidicelli for punching him on the neck after the couple’s wedding last Thursday in Bonifacio Global City.

Tamara narrated to Raffy Tulfo what happened that night, up to the time when he was hit by Guidicelli.

He had this message to Guidicelli: “Sir Matteo, ‘yung totoo lang po. Alam niyo at alam ng buong pamilya niyo na sinapak niyo ako sa leeg. Hindi naman puwede na dahil galit kayo, sasapakin niyo ako. Wala naman po akong ginagawa sa inyo. ‘Yung attorney niya ‘yung [humingi ng sorry sa akin]. Tapos ‘yung mommy niya at taga Victory.

Tamara then vowed to file formal charges against the actor, whose supposedly secret wedding with Geronimo became the talk of the town because of the elements of soap opera in it.

Here are some portions of Tamara’s own account of what happened that night:

Both sides sir may nabibitiwan na salita.

That was the instance Guidicelli punched the Tamara, the bodyguard recalled. Guidicelli earlier said he did not punch Tamara as was already reported in an interview with ABS-CBN.

Tweets about the Sarah-Matteo secret wedding erase politics, coronavirus from trending topics

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

News about the secret wedding of Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli on Thursday night (February 20) trended on social media on Friday, with netizens congratulating the singer-actress for finally having the opportunity to break free from her mother Divine.

But what would have been a purely romantic day for the couple was rocked with controversy, particularly after it was reported that Matteo punched on the neck a bodyguard hired by Sarah’s family for informing Divine of their secret wedding.

The incident was reported by the bodyguard, Terry Tamara, to the police precinct that has jurisdiction over the Bonifacio Global City, where the wedding happened.

The ceremony was kept under wraps despite rumors already circulating that the two were to be married on Thursday. Sarah even attended the taping of her show at the ABS-CBN studio that day.

@chasacar commented on Twitter: “But I can’t help but be amazed with Sarah. Imagine, going to work all day long and making people believe that all is well then suddenly, late at night, she has a wedding ceremony to catch up on? You got skills ghourl!”

Sarah and Matteo have been on a relationship for six years already, and they announced their engagement last November.

There was a time on Friday when the top Trending in Philippines topics on Twitter were all about the Sarah-Matteo wedding. Netizens tweeted about the topics “Mommy Divine”, “Mrs. Guidicelli”, “Sarah”, “The Buzz”, and “Ricky”. For several hours on Friday, the trending topics on Twitter had nothing to do with the coronavirus or Philippine politics and controversies.

Entertainment Columnist Ricky Lo had a scoop about the wedding, and some criticized him for again sticking his nose on a “private matter”. But some also congratulated him for getting the exclusive story from an unknown source.

Netizens protest Marcelito Pomoy’s 4th place finish in America’s Got Talent, boos Simon Cowell

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Filipinos used Twitter to voice their disgust over the mere 4th Place finish of phenomenal singer Marcelito Pomoy in America’s Got Talent (AGT).

This caused the topic “Marcelito Pomoy” to trend on Twitter on Tuesday (February 18).

While many netizens congratulated Pomoy, there were plenty of tweets that said the Filipino singer was robbed of the AGT title.

They also accused judge Simon Cowell of orchestrating the runner-up finish of Pomoy.

@Gamer1Pro_ReAl, for instance, tweeted: “Not gonna lie, Marcelito Pomoy was robbed by Simon. Was never going to win, and it’s pretty evident he was there as a view grabber for AGT The Champions. Almost 50 million views between his performances on YouTube. (Cannot compare to V Unbeatable due to golden buzzer).”

https://twitter.com/Gamer1Pro_ReAl/status/1229603616840810498?s=20

@aartuban commented: “And the Cooking Show goes to AGT. Still, Congrats to you Marcelito Pomoy. We, the Filipinos are so proud of what have you’ve become.”

https://twitter.com/aartuban/status/1229604974461509634?s=20

The netizens’ protest also gave birth to the hashtag #JusticeForMarcelitoPomoy.

@i_amintrovert said:“It’s you SIMON COWELL who made that song choice then you didn’t like it?  What the F? I feel so bad on Marcelito ‘s reaction when you are commenting. Once again, I lost my respect on you. Here you go again manipulating the whole thing!! AGT is SCRIPTED!!!  #JusticeforMarcelito.”

Pomoy’s deleted video wherein he said Cowell picked his song for the grand finals was also reposted.

Pomoy sang Beauty and the Beast in the AGT grand finals, which drew a standing ovation from the live audience and all the judges except Cowell, who even commented that what Pomoy did was predictable.

Before the announcement of the AGT results, reports already circulated that Pomoy would only end up at 4th place.

Some said AGT only used Pomoy to get millions of views on YouTube.

@Annefluencer said: “I know YouTube views are not counted as a category for scoring / voting in America’s Got Talent, but if you’ll check their Official Channel, only videos of Marcelito Pomoy has more than 10 Million views per performance.”

After being away from the theaters for over a year, love team KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla) will be starring in a movie dubbed by ABS-CBN Films as one of its biggest projects for the year.

The film, titled “After Forever”, will be the first of the real-life couple after the highly successful “The Hows of Us”,  which became the highest-grossing Filipino flick of all time in 2018.

It was, however, dislodged by “Hello, Love, Goodbye” in 2019 featuring Kathryn and Kapuso star Alden Richards.

While “Hello, Love, Goodbye” was shot in Hong Kong, “After Forever” will be filmed in San Francisco, California. It is targeted to hit the cinemas by the middle of the year.

The Hows of Us” ended its 50-day international cinema run with a gross revenue of P810 million, which catapulted it to the top of the Philippine highest grossing movie of all time.

A year later, however, “Hello, Love, Goodbye” grossed about a billion pesos.

Locsin defends Duterte’s decision to end VFA

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Although he doesn’t share the Chief Executive’s opinion, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. defended the decision of President Duterte to terminate the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) with the United States over Washington’s “insult to our sovereignty”.

Locsin said Duterte’s reaction to the “senatorial shit” from the US is warranted and shows that the country has a leader with strong political will.

“We need a President who blows his top when his country gets senatorial ‘shet’ from the US. Let me tell you this, he has the constitutional power and authority to abrogate any treaty for any reason especially an insult to our sovereignty,” the country’s top diplomat said.

On Friday night (February 7), Malacanang announced that Duterte has already given instruction for Locsin to send the official notice informing Washington that Manila is terminating the two countries’ VFA.

“PRRD (President Rodrigo Roa Duterte) is instructing ES (Medialdea) to tell SFA (Locsin) to send the notice of termination to the US government,” Duterte’s Spokesman and Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said.

This happened just after the Senate conducted a hearing on the matter, where Locsin said he was only pushing for a review—not termination—of the VFA.

“The DFA at this point proffers no preference for any of these options, but at this point I think a review, a vigorous review of the Visiting Forces Agreement is called for,” Locsin said in the Senate hearing on the agreement forged in 1999 that governs the conduct of US troops who take part in military exercises in the Philippines.

He added: “While the Philippines has the prerogative to terminate the VFA anytime, the continuance of the agreement is deemed to be more beneficial to the Philippines compared to any benefits were it to be terminated. Our contribution to regional defense is anchored on our military alliance with the world’s last superpower.”

Some senators and other officials also dissuaded the President from terminating the VFA.

Duterte said the cancellation of the US visa of Senator Ronald dela Rosa was the last straw that drove him to end the VFA, noting that he first had the idea when the US Senate included in the 2020 budget bill of the US a provision barring the entry of Philippine officials who have something to do with the incarceration of Senator Leila de Lima.

The US senators were demanding the release of de Lima, who, they claim, was a victim of political persecution.

But Locsin said the lesson here for the US Senate was “plead, don’t demand”

Kapuso network claims leadership in national TV ratings for January based on Nielsen data

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Using data from Nielsen, GMA Network again claimed leadership in national TV ratings for January 2020, beating rival ABS-CBN from the morning to the evening time slots.

In a statement, the Kapuso network said its average total day people audience share reached 34.7% in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) compared to only 31.7% for ABS-CBN.

GMA’s shows in the morning block narrowly edged ABS-CBN’s programs 28.8% to 27.4%. For the afternoon shows, GMA had a big lead versus ABS-CBN at 37.7% to 31.4%. In the evening block, GMA had slim edge 34.8% to 33.6%. This includes the primetime slots.

These numbers, of course, will be disputed by the Kapamilya network, which is using the polls of Kantar Media. The ratings released by Kantar for January 28, 2020, for instance, showed ABS-CBN having 8 of the Top 12 shows in the evening block, with FPJ’S Ang Probinsyano leading the pack with 33.2 percent audience share.

According to GMA, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement’s client pool covers a total of 37 clients/subscribers consisting of local TV networks, regional clients, blocktimers, advertisers and agencies.

It said: “The Kapuso Network likewise ruled in all time blocks with wider margins in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 72 and 57% of all urban viewers in the country. GMA registered an average of 36.7% total day people audience share in Urban Luzon; beating ABS-CBN’s 29.1%. With official data from January 1 to 25, the Kapuso Network kept its winning streak in Mega Manila with 37.1%, which was way ahead of ABS’ 27%.”

Its ratings drivers for January are Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, Magpakailanman, 24 Oras, Pepito Manaloto, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, Daddy’s Gurl, The Gift, Beautiful Justice, Amazing Earth, One of the Baes, Prima Donnas, Eat Bulaga, Kapuso Movie Night, 24 Oras Weekend, Magkaagaw, Wowowin, Bubble Gang, Madrasta, Tadhana and Imbestigador.

GMA said this is a good start for the Kapuso Network’s 70th year in the industry.

Exploitation a norm in the showbiz industry

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Abuse and exploitation have become the norm in the showbiz industry, but celebrities and the so-called extras would just opt not to complain for fear of losing projects.

This was the revelation made by witnesses at a House committee hearing on Monday (February 3) for proposed measures seeking to prevent a repeat of the death of Eddie Garcia during a shooting.

Veteran actor Bembol Roco, who became an icon for his shaved head, for instance, lamented how they are being made to work for unspecified number of hours during shooting of films. “It’s crazy to think na meron palang ganung trabaho, walang limit sa oras.”

He said there were directors who tried to do something about it in the past, to no avail. “Binibigyan niyo ng importansya ngayon ‘yung aming kalagayan. Noon pa man early ’80s sila Lino Brocka, sila Behn Cervantes, have been trying to make this happen. Pero hindi nakakuha ng sapat na suporta. Hanggang ngayon eh ganun pa rin ang sitwasyon.”

Roco added: ”Hindi naman kami humihingi ng hindi sapat sa amin. Fairness lang. Medyo naabuso kaming lahat sa pamamahala ng networks, ng producers na ganun ang sistema na walang working hours.”

Ice Seguerra, a former child star and now a recording artist, said they really can’t complain because of the “gag order” imposed by networks and producers. Disobeying this could lead to loss of job, Seguerra added.

“Unfortunately, actors can’t really say much. They’re bound by contract by these big networks and they can’t say anything because there’s a gag order,” Seguerra said. “Paano kami magsasalita? ‘Pag nagsalita kami, mawawalan kami ng trabaho. Ang hirap rin for us.”

The extras and ordinary showbiz workers experience worse. “Sa init ng araw nasa ilalim lang ho kami ng payong, nakaupo, walang maayos na lugar. Medyo nag-level up para sa mga artista but unfortunately for the extras, it’s like this. Until now they come to the set earlier than all of us but you see them sitting in cardboard boxes. Wala man lang upuan, walang merienda minsan,” Seguerra said.  “It’s hard because they’re there, because they are very passionate about what they do. They love what they do. We love what we do and that’s why there’s a tendency for us to be abused because we love what we do and hindi kami nagrereklamo about it but mahal na mahal namin.”

Several house bills (HBs) have been filed in Congress seeking to improve the working condition for the showbiz industry.

These include HB 1766, or an Act Providing for proper working conditions in the movie and television industry filed Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund ‘LRay’ Villafuerte Jr. and HB 2476  (Providing enhanced protection, security and benefits for media workers) filed by Rep. Rowena Niña Taduran

Filipino moviegoers should expect 34 quality films from Viva this year under its ‘Vision 2020’ plans

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Basing on the “Viva Vision 2020”, the local film industry is bound to give foreign movie producers a run for their money again this year in the domestic market.

Viva Films boss Vincent Del Rosario just announced the movie outfit intends to produce 34 flicks this year with a budget of around P1 billion. This number is way more than the 19 films produced by the company in 2019, which was already considered a banner year for Viva.

“It was indeed a miraculous year for us. We were happy with our 2019 journey. We gave the public high quality and entertaining movies. Last year, we produced 19 movies. From what I gathered, that was the most that a film outfit produced. We offered our audience a diversity of choice. There were traditional mainstream fare and there were also out of the box projects,” del Rosario said.

For Viva Vision 2020, del Rosario said they gathered the best creative minds in the industry, biggest writers and directors, and matched them with the brightest stars in the land. “There will also be strategic alliance with both local and global partners to push the envelope in terms of concept and quality. With ‘Viva Vision 2020,’ we set the trend, we achieve the unachievable, we make the impossible possible.”

The top brass and talents of Viva Films faced the media last January 28 to reveal what the company has in store for Filipinos in their 39th year in the business.

The company said moviegoers can expect originals, remakes and superhero movies this year.

The Originals include On Vodka, Beers and Regrets, The Devoted, Hindi Tayo Pwede, Love The Way You Lie, Tililing, Untrue, Nightshift, The Other Woman, Walang Ka-Paris, You F Oh, Pakboys, Mang Jose, Ultimate Oppa, Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam, Sa Muli, and 100 Tula Para Kay Stella 2.

“There will be Filipino adaptation if Korean hits like Spellbound, A Hard Day, The Wedding Dress, The Housemaid, A Man and A Woman, Sunny, More Than Blue, The Wedding Breaker, and the Mexican movie Instructions Not Included,” Viva said.

Adaptations from Filipino comics are Joaquin Bordado, Ang Panday, Gagambino, Elias Paniki, Totoy Bato, Kamandag, Valora, and Berdugo. It will also produce another remake of Pedro Penduko.

Viva said: “Actors and actresses expected to star in these projects include Bela Padilla, Regine Velasquez, Sharon Cuneta, Aga Muhlach, Dingdong Dantes, John Arcilla, Anne Curtis, Baron Geisler, Marco Gumabao, Lovi Poe, Christian Bables, Janno Gibbs, Xia Vigor, Alessandra de Rossi, Empoy Marquez, Yassi Pressman, JC Santos, Alex Gonzaga, Xian Lim, Cristine Reyes, and Kim Molina, among others.”

PH’s ‘sexiest man’ Alden Richards wants to have a girlfriend—finally— this year

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Alden Richards, named the “Sexiest Man in the Philippines” for two straight years now, just announced that he is hoping to finally have a girlfriend this year.

The Kapuso star made this revelation at the media announcement of his new endorsement deal with the Lucio Tan Group for Embassy Whisky.

“I’m giving it time this year. Ayan ang sigurado!” Alden said when pressed if he is actively seeking a real-life romantic relationship.

He noted that there is a big change that his goal will come true since it’s still the start of the year. ”Siyempre hahanap muna.

Already, Alden was rumored to have been wooing former Miss Universe Catriona Gray. But he denied it, saying he has not even personally met Catriona, who is now a contract star of ABS-CBN. Alden, of course, is a Kapuso talent, with his current primetime project in GMA Network being the series “The Gift”. He is also one of the hosts of “Eat Bulaga”.

Alden, aside from being one of the most desired bachelors in the country, has been voted the “Sexiest Man in the Philippines” for two consecutive years (2018 and 2019).

In the 2019 poll of the entertainment blog Starmometer, Alden received 56.9% of the votes.

He bested the likes of Daniel Padilla, Enrique Gil, Dingdong Dantes and James Reid.

Starmometer’s criteria for the poll are 30% charm, 40% physique and 30% popularity index.

Alden and his team are now abroad for another endorsement. Photos of him on a plane wearing a face mask are all over the social media. This had his fans worried, as the world is now facing the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) that originated from Wuhan, China.

For instance, @Mhaicute tweeted:

Alden, in an interview with Boy Abunda last year, revealed that he last had a romantic relationship way back in college.

Nadine Lustre dares Viva Entertainment to sue her for unilaterally terminating her contract

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Singer-actress Nadine Lustre is daring Viva Entertainment to sue her for unilaterally cancelling her contract with her management outfit for 10 years.

Speaking through her counsel Lorna Kapunan, Nadine branded her contract with Viva as “unconscionable, oppressive and illegal”.

By bringing the case to the court, Kapunan said Viva risks seeing a David striking out a Goliath “that has taken advantage of young artists in the industry for the longest time”.

Any legal action by Viva, Kapunan stressed, will pave the way for the litigation of Nadine’s contract in the proper forum.

Nadine, who was also on the news recently after he and partner James Reid announced that they have already parted ways, broke the news on Monday (January 27) that she has unilaterally terminated her contract with Viva without stating the reasons.

But Viva countered by warning anyone who will deal with Nadine directly that will be liable for breach of contract, stressing that the 26-year-old actress is still legally an exclusive artist of the outfit.

It warned: ”Viva shall initiate appropriate legal action against Nadine and/or third parties that directly deal with Nadine in contravention of Viva’s management contract.”

Nadine worked under Viva since 2009, starting as a member of girl band “Pop Girls”. Viva also produced her movies. Her former boyfriend James left the agency last year and established  his own music label Careless. Nadine is now also a contract artist of Careless.

Kapunan said they have not received any official response from Viva since they informed the outfit of Nadine’s decision. “Instead, they “chose to wait in ambush to malign Nadine and harass third parties dealing with her in good faith. This is wrongful and malicious contract interference by Viva actionable in law for damages.”

GMA 7’s TV adaptation of ‘Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday’ to help tourism drive of Leyte and Ilocos

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

GMA 7’s new series “Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday”, a remake of a 1984 movie of similar title, will also serve as the Kapuso network’s push for tourism growth in the provinces of Leyte and Ilocos.

The network said several scenes of the series, which will begin its primetime airing on January 27, will feature famous tourist destinations in the two provinces, including the San Juanico Bridge that connects the islands of Samar and Leyte, and the magnificent Paoay Sand Dunes in Ilocos Norte.

Snookie Serna, who played the daughter of Biday (Gloria Romero) in the 1984 movie, will be back in the TV adaptation, and will be playing the role of Amy Waray. Her counterpart will be Dina Bonnevie, who will play the character of Sussie Biday.

Playing the roles of their daughters who will be affected by their feud are Barbie Forteza as Ginalyn Waray and Kate Valdez as Caitlyn Biday.

Taking on minor roles are Jay Manalo, Migo Adecer, Lovi Poe, Max Collins, Faith de Silva,Teresa Loyzaga, Jean Saburit, Tanya Montenegro, Benedict Cua, Celia Rodriguez, Jason Abalos, Pinky Amador, Mike Nacua, Yanna Asistio and Franco Gray Nerona.

Unlike the movie, which was a pure comedy flick, the TV series will have a mix of comedy and drama.

Meron pong comedy.”

According to the Kapuso network, the new primetime TV series will revolve around the characters of Barbie and Kate as they are dragged into a family feud instigated by their mothers, who are sworn enemies.

Barbie’s character (Ginalyn) is a diligent and optimistic Waray girl, while Kate (Caitlyn) is an Ilocana girl who dreams of making it big as a vlogger.  “Ginalyn and Caitlyn’s paths meet, and they become best friends. Little do they know that their mothers are mortal enemies because they loved the same man, Joaquin,” the GMA 7 said.

The two will meet for the first time on San Juanico Bridge where Caitlyn is filming a vlog. They will then collaborate on another vlog featuring Tacloban City.

Yassi Pressman asks netizens to stop cyberbullying sister Issa as fans demand to know real story behind JaDine breakup

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

It seems that Nadine Lustre herself does not believe that Issa Pressman is the third party that triggered the end of her nearly four-year relationship with James Reid.

This is apparent in the Instagram post of Issa’s elder sister Yassi on Wednesday (January 22). Yassi’s photo shows she and Nadine were together drinking wine on the night of January 21, or just when netizens were bombarding social media with hate messages against Issa for her alleged role in the JaDine breakup.

Yassi said she and Nadine found the social media posts amusing at first, until the attacks against her sister became too harsh.

😊

She commented in her post: “This was me and nadz last night, watching how some of us become cruel over untrue statements.  Initially we all laughed about how crazy the things that woke us up yesterday were, and then…. they started getting out of hand, at di na yun tama.. Ayaw na po sana namin patulan, but we decided to post something because cyber-bullying is not okay, it is never okay.”

Yassi said she was forced to speak over Instagram in defense of her sister because Issa would rather just remain quiet over the dragging of her name into the issue. “Hindi po papatol ang kapatid ko sa mga sinasabi ninyo. Pero bilang Ate, hindi ko naman po yata kayang panuorin na patuloy po siyang binabato ng mga masasakit na salita dahil nananahimik siya.”

She appealed to netizens to “be careful with the words you say, and things you think are true on social media.”

“They’re not always the truth. Do not be so quick to point fingers, when you do not have the proper information,” she continued. “We’re all okay. Sana po kayo din. Let’s respect everyone.”

But in the same post, some still pressed Issa to clear her name if indeed she had nothing to do with the JaDine breakup. Some also demanded that the true story be revealed.

@belajadeee_08, for instance, said: “Bakit po hindi dene defend ni ms.issa name niya po ? She needs to speak out para po maclear niya name niya . We’re so glad kasi you’re all okay pero as a fan we need to know the truth po . God Bless po ”

@rynyryyy seconded: “@belajadeee_08 true kawawa ang fans. They deserve to know the truth!”

Nadine and James, in a joint statement released last January 20, officially announced that they have separated romantically, although they will continue to work together, as Nadine is a contract star of James’ music label Careless. JaDine were supposed to celebrate Year 4 of their relationship on February 11.

Did James Reid just replace Nadine Lustre with a self-confessed bisexual

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Issa Pressman is perhaps the most-hated “villain” on social media today.

She was widely tagged as the culprit behind the James Reid – Nadine Lustre (love team JaDine) breakup. Netizens allege that she had been flirting with James since last year.

Issa is a sister of another Kapamilya star Yassi Pressman (leading lady of Coco Martin in the hit series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano).

Checking on reports related to Issa showed that she confessed one time that she is a bisexual. She even disclosed in November 2018 that she was in a relationship with singer Marga Bermudez, who is known as Marga on the Mic.

In a message to the LGBTQI+ community, Issa once said: “For them, it was just, ‘If you’re happy with what you’re doing, if you think that what you’re doing is something that would make you happy, could make you happy, then go ahead.’”

Issa and Marga were still together up to the middle of 2019. Interviewed at the MEGA Equality Ball 2019 last June 12, Issa said:

“And I always knew that I was gonna be with a person whom I’m actually in love with, whether if he’s a boy or a girl. So for me love is love.”

She was even proud of being an inspiration to the LGBTQI+ community: “Afterwards, when we went out in public, it was just like a normal thing. It was so much better because apparently more people got inspired. We got messages about it, and I’m very thankful for that.”

Issa also has a good following on social media. Her Instagram account @pressmanissa has more than 361,000 followers. Her Twitter account @issapressman, meanwhile, is being followed by more than 19,400 people.

Netizens are all over Issa on Twitter. She is being bashed in all the top Trending in Philippines topics on Tuesday afternoon. The Top 5 trending topics are all about the JaDine breakup: #JaDine, Issa, Nadine, #LeaveJuliaBarrettoAlone and James Reid.

In a joint statement released on the “Tonight With Boy Abunda” talk show on ABS-CBN Monday night, James and Nadine officially confirmed that they are no longer together:

“It’s true that we have split up, but not for all the reasons that are being spread on the tabloids and social media, but because after quiet and mature conversations, we decided to focus on ourselves not only for our careers but more for our personal growth as we are still young and we want to achieve as much as we can.

“We agreed that going separate ways was best for both of us. We are in good terms and are still really good friends and will continue to work with each other especially when it comes to music.”

“Thank you for all the JaDine fans for their undying support and we hope you continue to support us now and in the future. We shall forever be grateful to them for their love and understanding. Thank you.”

This ended more than two weeks of circulating rumors that the two were already estranged romantically, but still together professionally, as Nadine has an existing contract with James’ music label Careless.

ABS-CBN stars call on social media followers to support 1-million signature petition for network’s franchise renewal

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

The stars of ABS-CBN are now banking on the support of their social media followers for the 1-million signature campaign launched by the National Union of Journalist of the Philippines (NUJP) calling for the renewal of the Kapamilya network’s 25-year franchise.

The network could cease to exist by March 30 if the bills seeking to grant ABS-CBN a new franchise are not acted upon by lawmakers. Standing in the way of its franchise renewal is President Duterte himself, who repeatedly said that he would do everything in his power to prevent ABS-CBN from getting a franchise extension. Duterte is accusing ABS-CBN of biased reporting and has not forgotten the decision of its management not to air his campaign ads in the 2016 elections even if they were paid already. True enough, the bills have not progressed in the administration-dominated House of Representatives.

NUJP, in launching the 1-million signature campaign last January 17, said Duterte’s action goes against freedom of the press and expression. Aside from physical signatures, the group is also using the change.org platform to gather electronic signatures.

As of the afternoon of January 21, however, the change.org petition has only gathered about 5,000 signatures.

https://www.change.org/p/abs-cbn-one-million-for-abs-cbn-s-franchise

The stars of ABS-CBN have started campaigning openly for the petition.

“The Voice of the Philippines” judge Lea Salonga, for instance, said in a Twitter post: “Yes, I have personal and professional reasons for this one. Not gonna lie.”

Currently on-leave “It’s Showtime” host Anne Curtis tweeted: “Please sign the petition. So many lives will be affected by the jobs that will be lost.” Fellow “It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda, who also has his own talk show “Gandang Gabi, Vice!”, said on Twitter: “We will not lose our family”.

NUJP, after gathering 1 million signatures, plans to send the petition to Congress and hopes that the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN would be passed. The group said Congress should pass the bill and just let Duterte veto it if he really intends to shut ABS-CBN down.

Lea, Anne and Vice alone collectively have over 30 million followers on social media, so reaching that 1 million signatures should not be a problem.

Gerald Anderson admits own shortcomings in keeping relationships, cites support of ‘A Soldier’s Heart’ stars

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Controversial actor Gerald Anderson credited his co-stars in new Kapamilya series “A Soldier’s Heart” for helping him withstand the pressures and negative emotions he had with regard to his failed relationship with fellow ABS-CBN talent Bea Alonzo.

Gerald, who was also put on the spotlight after Bea gave hints that he flirted with Julia Barretto when they were still together, particularly cited Carlo Aquino for showing genuine concern to his situation.

In an interview with the hosts of ABS-CBN’s morning talk show “Magandang Buhay”, Geralo shared: “Nag-open up ako sa isang taping namin. Pero hindi ko sinabi sa kanila na ako ‘yon. … Noong time kasi na ‘yon parang nasa akin lahat, parang may makaka-relate kaya sa akin? Iba ‘yung feeling. So nung nagkuwento ako, ‘yung kaibigan ko kasi ganito, ‘yung partner niya ganyan,’ sabi nila ‘ay oo, Bro.’ So parang gumaan agad ‘yung pakiramdam ko na ‘ah okay normal, hindi lang pala ako ang dumadaan sa ganito.

ABS-CBN scheduled the start of the primetime airing of the new series of Gerald and Carlo on Monday (January 20). The two actors and other stars of “A Soldier’s Heart” guested at “Magandang Buhay” — hosted by Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal—to promote the TV series.

In that interview, Gerald admitted that he also had his own shortcomings when it comes to keeping relationships. He said: “Hindi naman ako magmamalinis. Until this day, siyempre there are nights na I think of what could I have done better, ano ‘yung dapat ko ginawa. Habang tumatagal doon ko na-realize na there’s always two versions talaga. At iba ang perspective ng bawat tao sa relationship. It takes two to tango. But I also accepted na a relationship doesn’t fail just because of one person, it really takes two, kasi kayong dalawa ‘yung nandoon.”

When people were already passing judgment on him, Gerald said he was glad to be around Carlo and other “A Soldier’s Heart” stars. “Pero noong pinaka-peak ng lahat ng judgment at pinagdaanan, ako masasabi ko na hindi ko ‘yon [malalagpasan] kung hindi dahil sa ‘A Solider’s Heart,’ dahil sa grupo na ito. Makita ko lang sila, magba-basketball, during break, or kakain kami sa labas, or kakain sa kampo sobrang sarap na may ganito ako. I think Papa God gives you the challenges at the right time in your life. He gives the worst challenges to the strongest soldiers, isa ‘yon sa mga na-realize ko.”

Alex Gonzaga shows to the world how Mikee Morada proposed to her in Hong Kong via her latest vlog

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Actress and vlogger Alex Gonzaga and his three-year partner Mikee Morada are all over the social media after Alex confirmed that they are already engaged.

Alex shared the news through her latest vlog, where she even showed the video of the moment Mikee proposed to her. The vlog, titled “Finally in Hong Kong” and captioned “I said yes!”, was uploaded on Friday (January 16). The almost 18 minutes video showed the trip of the two during the holidays to Hong Kong, where the marriage proposal happened on the night of December 27 at the 1881 Heritage.

Mikee, after presenting the engagement ring, asked Alex: “Will you marry me?’ Alex replied: “Yes!” It wasn’t really a romantic scene as the two, especially Alex, were laughing. Still, it was evident that Alex was taken by surprise.

Alex also just celebrated her birthday last January 16.

The vlog of Mikee’s proposal to Alex already had more than 450,000 views one day after it was posted. Alex is a very popular vlogger, with her YouTube channel among the Top 10 in the Philippines.

Both “Alex G” and “Mikee” emerged in the top Trending in Philippines topics on Friday, as netizens congratulated the two on their engagement.

Alex’s sister Toni, also a Kapamilya talent, congratulated her in a birthday message. “Happy birthday Tata!!! Thank you for being the best sister, friend and 2nd mommy to Seve! I love you! Congratulations! It’s finally out! We are happy for you! Welcome to the family Mikee.

Daniel is also set to star in a movie to be produced by ABS-CBN titled “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” with veteran actress and producer Charo Santos, who is also the CEO of the network.  ABS-CBN released its plans for 2020 amid uncertainty over the renewal of its congressional franchise, which is due to expire at the end of March.

President Duterte, who is still fuming mad over the decision of ABS-CBN not to air his campaign ads in the 2016 elections, is vocal in saying that he would do everything in his power to block the passage of the network’s franchise renewal. Several bills have been filed in Congress seeking the franchise’s extension for another 25 years, but none of them has moved thus far.

ABS-CBN PR released videos and photos of Kathryn and Daniel during the ceremonies for the signing of their respective three-year contract extensions with the network. This caused the hashtag #KathNiel2020 to trend on Twitter.

SHOWBIZ: Celebrities stranded in airports due to flight cancellations caused by Taal Volcano eruption

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

According to reports, many celebrities were stranded in airports due to the cancellation of flights brought about by the eruption of Taal Volcano last Sunday (January 12).

Raymond Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati, for instance, were already at the Hong Kong International Airport last Sunday when they were informed that flights to and from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) had been canceled.

The couple, who are now having their pre-wedding celebrations with friends and families, went back to the airport the following day and were again told that flights to Manila are still not allowed, as Taal Volcano remains on Alert Level 4, meaning an explosive eruption can happen within hours.

Singers Pilita Corrales, Jay-R and Claire dela Fuente, meanwhile, were supposed to board a plane to Manila from Cebu City when the announcement of the flight cancellations were made.

Reports said they will just take a ferry to Manila instead.

Actress Ruffa Mae Quinto narrated in her Instagram post that she and her family were also stranded in Hong Kong. They waited for several hours at the airport hoping things would normalize. “Kaya ako , simple na lang , ang important safe kaming family , kahit anong pag daanan,” she said. “[B]asta niyakap ko Anak ko … sabi ko basta kasama ko sya [at] healthy kami.”

Meanwhile, members of the Korean girl group Cherry Bullet were stranded at the NAIA. They were supposed to fly back to their country when authorities decided to cancel the flights.

A statement of the group’s handler FNC said: “We attended the 24th Asian Television Awards in Manila, Philippines on January 11 and 12, and a volcano erupted near Manila. The members and staff are safely staying at a hotel and watching the situation. They were scheduled to return to Korea on January 13, but due to the closure of the airport, they will return as soon as the situation is normalized. We sincerely hope that there will be no damage to local residents and fans. We will do our best to make sure that Cherry Bullet returns home safely.”

Will Sharon Cuneta’s appeal to ‘Tatay’ Digong help save ABS-CBN from impending closure?

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Megastar Sharon Cuneta, who is known to be close to President Duterte, publicly asked the Chief Executive to reconsider his decision to block the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, which will expire at the end of March 2020.

Sharon calls Duterte “My Tatay”. Duterte supported the candidacy of Sharon’s brother Cesar “Chet” Cuneta, who ran for Pasay City’s mayoral post in the May 2019 elections. Chet eventually lost to Imelda G. Calixto-Rubiano, who formerly represented the city in the Congress and sister of then-incumbent Mayor Antonio Calixto.

Duterte even joked during the celebration of 156th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio in Caloocan last November 30 that the Megastar wanted to throw her husband, Senator Francis Pangilinan, out of their house. The President was then angry at Pangilinan, who is a member of the rival Liberal Party.

After signing her contract renewal with ABS-CBN last January 9, the Megastar said: “I’ll just say this before saying goodbye—I pray that our dear President reconsiders his decision about ABS-CBN, not just because I just renewed [my contract with the studio, because] I can always find a job. But because everybody I grew up with here—who have remained loyal to the station and have grown up here having learned from the school of hard knocks and have become family and good friends—will lose almost everything they’ve built over the years, and even those that might choose to stay—if indeed, unfortunately goes that way—it won’t be the same.”

She continued: “So, I hope in my heart that our dear President reconsiders the thousands and thousands of Filipinos who have grown up here and learned the ropes here, and that includes me.”

The question now is: Will Sharon’s personal appeal to Duterte carry weight and help save ABS-CBN?

Right now, with all the hate that the President harbors against the network, it would probably take more than just Sharon’s plea. It’s barely 78 days before the deadline, and if Sharon’s appeal would just fall on deaf ears, the country’s biggest network could just be signing off indefinitely, or forever.

GMA 7 teaser for ‘Descendants of the Sun’ remake shows lead actors undergoing real military training

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Actors Dingdong Dantes, Rocco Nacino, Lucho Ayala, Paul Salas, Prince Clemente and Jon Lucas underwent real-life military training in preparation for their roles in the Philippine remake of a 2016 South Korean TV series titled “Descendants of the Sun”.

The new Kapuso series is proving to be a tough challenge for these actors, based on the videos released to the public by GMA Network.

They went to Fort Magsaysay in Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija to undergo Special Forces Training for several days. Dingdong said they were privileged to train in the midst of the new Special Forces recruits in the camp.

They ran for several miles in the mountains, crawled and rolled through long stretches of mud, carried logs, climbed walls of ropes and ran through obstacle courses. These were aside from the regular conditioning routines and exercises that trainees go through.

“Kailangan namin i-internalize ‘yan and physically maramdaman…iba pala talaga sya nung actual na naming ginagawa,” Dingdong, who will play the role of “Big Boss” Captain Lucas Manalo, said.

“Talagang nalampasan yung expectations ko dahil sobrang hirap pala talaga ng training ng ating mga military; sobrang pagod na pagod talaga physically and mentally,” Jon shared.

They also experienced living and sleeping in a makeshift tent that had zero convenience. Before they were allowed to go to sleep, they were made to exercise and sweat a lot.

They said their resolve was really tested, but the team did not quit. The original “Descendants of the Sun” starred Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo, Jin Goo and Kim Ji-won and aired on KBS2 from February 24 to April 14, 2016 for 16 episodes plus three special episodes.

Information provided for the series said it is a love story between Captain Yoo Shi Jin, Korean Special Forces, and Doctor Kang Mo Yeon, surgeon at Haesung Hospital. Together they face danger in a war-torn country.

Radio talk show host Jobert Sucaldito gets flak for suicide joke versus Nadine Lustre

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

Netizens are urging Nadine Lustre to sue fellow Kapamilya talent and radio talk show host Jobert Sucaldito over his suicide joke against the actress.

In their DZMM program “Showbuzz”, Sucaldito made harsh comments against Nadine for her rebuttal of a column of Ricky Lo in the Philippine Star about her rumored separation with live-in partner James Reid, the other half of the JaDine star couple.

Sucaldito said he did not like how Nadine disputed the contents of Lo’s column. The DZMM host said Nadine has herself to blame for her reported breakup with James.

Sucaldito apparently made fan of Nadine when he commented: “Di ba ‘yun naman ang gusto nila? Kuno kuno may mga labas ang pwet, naka t-back pa doon sa building tapos may nakalagay na mga caption na parang gustong tumalon. Sana tumalon na lang, kung ganun lang din naman pala.”

This joke gave birth to the hashtag “#SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert”, where netizens countered with nasty comments.

@dklustre said: “Having a toxic, insensitive and entitled journalist like Jobert Sucaldito is such  a shame. U insulted someone (Nadine)  because of her mental illness and told her to jump off the building. Srsly, ang bobo mo. U just encouraged someone to commit suicide++”.

@tomflordeliza commented: “The year is 2020 and Nadine Lustre may be wearing her first suit when she finally decides to submit a libel case and sue Jobert Sucaldito’s whack ass. Now that’s an OOTD I can’t wait to see lmaoooo #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert.”

This was seconded by @jethgregorgeous: “Remember Erik Santos and his management also filed a Libel case against him two years ago. Willie Revillame left ABS because of him. He embarassed Morissette in public  television. He also called Maymay Entrata “Ilusyonada”.”

Some of the netizens said Sucaldito’s suicide joke goes beyond Nadine, as it is an issue involving mental state that needs to be addressed seriously and should not be made a subject of a joke.

ABS-CBN News head Ging Reyes, in an official statement via Twitter, said: “We in ABS-CBN News take the issue of mental health very seriously. This was even the subject of a recent documentary that was produced. We are investigating reports that DZMM host Jobert Sucaldito uttered inappropriate and insensitive comments regarding actress Nadine Lustre’s state of mental health. Our journalists and other members of our team are accountable for their on-air statements.”

As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday (January 8), the hashtag #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert already had over 134,000 tweets.

Keep ‘em comin! Dingdong Dantes not offended by memes making fun of his name, picks his favorite

in Entertainment/Tabloid PH Showbiz

By posting his favorite “Dingdong Dantes memes” thus far, it appears that the Kapuso actor is even urging netizens to keep those witty tweets—with funny puns using his name and accompanying equally hilarious photos—coming.

Dingdong posted in his @dingdongdantes Twitter account what he thinks as the best meme. He captioned it with: “And the winner is …. Dingdong DoneTest!” with smiley faces. The meme, created by netizen David Carlo Lucenara, showed a photo of several people taking an exam, with the half-naked Dingdong raising his test paper already to indicate he has finished the exam while the others are still in the middle of it.

The witty memes have put “Dingdong Dantes” on top of the Trending in Philippines topics on Twitter with almost 11,000 tweets already as of noon on Tuesday (January 7). Netizens continue to tweet about Dingdong and share their own creative memes.

One funny meme had Dingdong wearing a shirt bearing the label of a popular Filipino snack “Dingdong”. In one photo, the face of Dingdong was superimposed on a picture of priest and was captioned “Dingdong Godbless”. Dingdong was also shown pushing a doorbell button and captioned “Dingdong”.

Other plays of Dingdong’s names with accompanying photos were: Dingdong Mic Test, DIngdong Dance Steps and Dingdong Dantes Peak.

Some netizens also used other celebrities in their memes and posted them on the Dingdong Dantes thread. Dingdong’s wife Marian Rivera, for instance, was not spared. Her memes included “Bavarian Rivera”, with her face on a bavarian doughnut, and Barbarian Rivera.

Veteran actress Susan Roces meme was “SUS N’ ROSES”. Singer Morissette Amon was placed on top of a Filipino chiffon cake and captioned “Morissette Mamon”.

If you find people laughing while looking at their mobile phones or computers today, it is probably because they have stumbled upon another one of those Dingdong Dantes memes.
