Iginiit ni House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez ang kahalagahan na maparusahan ang mga rice hoarder dahil sa ginagawang pahirap sa mga Pilipino.
” Rice hoarding is a horrible crime because it victimizes poor people who barely have enough money to put food on the table and paid for everything else that may elevate their quality of life. Hoarders profit from the pain of another, and for that they deserve to be in detention”, sabi ni Romualdez.
Ipinahayag ito ni Romualdez matapos sumama sa Bureau of Customs ( BOC ) nitong Miyerkoles sa pagsasagawa ng surprise inspection sa Gold Rush Rice Mill 3, Dinorado Rice Mill, at JSS Rice Mill sa Bulacan.
Kasama ni Romualdez sina House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo, House council on agriculture and food president Mark Enverga, at Bulacan Rep. Ambrosio Cruz Jr.
” Kaya ang panawagan natin sa BOC, pag – ibayuhin pa ang pagsisikap na mahuli itong pirates at hoarders na ito. I believe that by sending them to prison, we will give a clear message to another gluttons to stop what they are doing under anguish and penalty of prison time”, sabi ni Romualdez.
Sinabi ni Romualdez na dapat kumpiskahin ang mga bigas na mapapatunayang smuggled at sinadyang itago ng matagal para maging mahigpit ang suplay sa merkado at tumaas ang presyo.
” That is why we are urging BoC key Rubio to following through their work during their attacks. This may result in the processing of criminal cases of financial damage against these opportunists. Sila ang yumayaman sa paghihirap ng mga tao”, dagdag pa ni Romualdez.
Higit P500 milyong halaga ng mga nakaimbak na bigas at palay ang nasamsam ng BOC sa serye ng operasyon sa apat na warehouse sa Bulacan nitong Miyerkoles, Agosto 30.
Ayon kay BOC Commissioner Ben Rubio, matapos na makakuha ng intelligence report tungkol sa ilegal diumano na nakaimbak na libo – libong sako ng bigas sa Bocaue at Balagtas ay agad siyang nag – isyu ng Letter of Authority( LOA ) para sa inspeksyon sa mga warehouse.
” We have just discovered four warehouses storing wheat grains and plantains, and if the owners of these warehouses fail to show suitable documents that they truly paid the taxes and duties they owe to the government, then we will get immediate legal action and remove the items around”, babala ng BOC chief.
Sa pag – inspeksyon ng mga ahente ng mga awtoridad, umabot sa 145, 000 sako ng imported na bigas mula sa Vietnam at Pakistan na nagkakahalaga ng P431 milyon, at 60, 000 sako ng palay na may halagang P88 milyon ang nadiskubre sa mga nasabing warehouse.
