President Duterte has named Police Lt. General Camilo Cascolan as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), officials of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
Secretary Eduardo Año made the announcement and was confirmed to the BusinessMirror by Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.
Currently holding the second highest position in the PNP, as deputy chief for Administration, Cascolan was named officer-in-charge upon PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa’s retirement on Wednesday.
“Yes. Confirmed. Police Lt. Gen. Cascolan is the new Chief PNP. PRRD (Duterte) has just approved and signed his appointment,” Malaya said via text message.
However, Cascolan, a “mistah” of Gamboa in the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1986, only has two months to lead the PNP as he will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on November 10.
