MANILA, Philippines — Three police officials have been endorsed by Interior Secretary Eduardo Ao to President Rodrigo Duterte as possible successors of outgoing Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa, who is set to retire on Sept. 2.

“Secretary Ao has submitted three names to the President but we cannot reveal the names and ranks,” Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) spokesman and Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said in a text message on Friday when asked for updates on Ao’s endorsement for the next PNP chief.
