ZAMBOANGA CITY–The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Grant-in-Aid (GIA) program has provided PHP1.4 million financial assistance to a service provider association in a “conflict-vulnerable” community in Zamboanga Sibugay.

DOST-9 Director Martin Wee on Monday identified the beneficiary as the Balagon Alsa-Masa Service Provider Association (BAMSPA) of Barangay Balagon, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Wee said the funding will be used for the acquisition of a rice and corn mill equipment as well as the necessary technologies for milling operations to support a science and technology-based livelihood within the community.

The financial grant is in line with Executive Order 70 and the efforts of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC), the DOST official said.

He said the technology grant aims to alleviate the financial burdens of post-harvest processes for the BAMSPA, as well as engender peace in the area where the beneficiary is located. (PNA)
