Australia sends troops to bolster coronavirus fight: Live updates

The number of cases worldwide is expected to reach 10 million next week, the World Health Organization has said, warning that the virus has yet to peak in the Americas. Coronavirus hospitalisations and caseloads have reached new highs in more than half a dozen states in the US, with newly confirmed cases nationwide back near their peak level of two months ago.  Nearly 9.2 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and nearly 475,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Thursday, June 25 04:45 GMT – Hong Kong announces coronavirus death

Hong Kong has announced a coronavirus patient admitted to hospital in late May has died.

A spokesman for the Princess Margaret Hospital said the 55-year-old man (confirmed case no. 1180) died early on Thursday morning.

The hospital said the man had suffered a stroke in the Philippines and was airlifted back
