Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on Thursday said that to impose “window hours” will only gather crowds in markets and defeat the purpose of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) where social distancing is strictly imposed.

Año urged local government units (LGUs) instead to rethink their strategies in combating the novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

He insisted the LGUs should do away with the “window hours” to avoid attracting large groups of market goers during those times.

Año said the DILG has received numerous reports that some LGUs had issued directives that restricted the operation of public and private markets
