3 mild quakes jolt Surigao del Sur

BUTUAN CITY – Three mild tectonic earthquakes jolted Surigao del Sur province Thursday morning, March 26.

In its bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a 2.1-magnitude earthquake was registered at 6:30 a.m.

The epicenter was plotted 73 kilometers (km) northeast in Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur province, and had a shallow depth of only six kms, Philvocs said.

Less than an hour later, a 2.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 5:34 a.m. on the same day (March 26), Phivolcs said.

The epicenter was traced only seven kms southwest in nearby town of Bayabas in the same province, it said.

The tremor had a depth of 58 kms, Phivolcs also said, in its bulletin.
