Gatchalian proposes program to end online sexual exploitation of children

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian underscored on Friday (Feb. 14) the need for a comprehensive human trafficking preventive education program to help protect Filipino children and youth from the online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC).

Gatchalian made the call at the conclusion of the National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, which is observed every second week of February by virtue of Proclamation No. 731 signed by President Fidel V. Ramos in 1996.

As chairman of the Senate committee on basic education, arts and culture, Gatchalian said this proposed program would arm the youth with vital information and protection measures against OSEC and other forms of trafficking.
