Higher excise taxes on sin products to be signed into law before the end of 2019

Albay Rep. Joey Salceda has expressed confidence that the measure increasing excise tax rates on liquor, heated tobacco, and vapor products would be signed into law before the year ends.

He said that aside from the 2020 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) or the proposed P4.1-trillion national budget for 2020, reform tax measures, specifically the proposed imposition of higher excise tax on liquor, heated tobacco, and vapor products will be enacted into law within this year.

“The two laws that will emerge are the budget and of course, taxes to pay for them, especially the deficit. So the excise tax on alcohol, tobacco, and vape will definitely come out,” Salceda, chairman
