DAVAO CITY — Residents and visitors are in for a new treat during the holidays as the Davao del Norte town of Sto. Tomas is set to install the first-ever Christmas village for this year’s “Paskong Tomasino: Malipayon ug Malinawon” festivities.

“We have selected Disneyland as the theme of this year’s Christmas village because we want to bring joy and fun especially to our children. Such concept is at the core of our yuletide celebration this year,” said Municipal Administrator Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña.

The Christmas village will run from December 6 to December 31, 2019 and will serve as an added attraction for residents and visitors wanting to look for new attractions during the yuletide season.

“The Christmas village will be operating from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. so that more people will be able to enjoy and experience the Disneyland-themed Christmas,” Lapiña added.

A total of 18 business establishments participated in this year’s Christmas village, which will help transform the entire area of the Municipal Park into a village installed with “Disneyland” decors and ornaments.

Lapiña thanked all the participating establishments, schools and associations, saying this would signal a fresh start of good rapport between them and the municipal government of Sto. Tomas.

“We hope that this endeavor would jumpstart the cooperative agreement between the private sectors in recognition of private initiative that creates conditions to the growth and competitiveness of private business — big, medium and small — all within a framework of transparent and accountable governance,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mart Sambalud, Sto. Tomas municipal information officer, told Philippine News Agency the project is expected to be finished before its launching on December 6.

Sambalud said the village is expected to become a must-see attraction in Sto. Tomas town during the yuletide season, where residents and visitors especially children, could drop by and spend with their love ones while enjoying the colorful festival of lights and sounds. (PNA)
