Palace mourns passing of Gokongwei matriarch

MANILA, Philippines — Malacaang on Sunday mourned the passing of Elizabeth Gokongwei whom it described as the “other half who helped in realizing the vision and dream of one of the greatest business leaders of our time.”

The Gokongwei matriarch passed away on Saturday, a week after the death of her husband, John. She was 85.

“A gentle, loving, kind, caring and selfless human being Mrs. Elizabeth was. She will be dearly missed,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
