Brig. Gen. Val de Leon, director of the Central Visayas regional police, has ordered all police commanders to intensify the accounting of loose firearms as part of the anti-criminality strategy in the region.

“We need to use the proper strategy to recover loose firearms without having to lose life,” said de Leon.

The official was apparently buoyed with the success of the Cebu City police’s launching of ‘Oplan Lancer’ which resulted in the recovery of more than 20 high-powered firearms and handguns.

The Cebu City Mobile Force Company has earlier launched an aggressive information and dissemination campaign against loose firearms in at least eight hinterland barangays in the city.
