ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have conferred the 2018 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG) to this city in recognition of the initiatives to promote the protection and welfare of children.
The SCFLG is awarded to cities and municipalities that have passed all the criteria set by the audit system subsequent to an assessment gauging their level of performance in implementing child-friendly programs and establishing measures that promote children’s welfare.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar received the award during the Regional Awarding ceremony held Friday in one of the local hotels.
Salazar also received a plaque of recognition for the city as the regional winner for the 2018 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities.
Meanwhile, Salazar has rallied officials of the different local government units in the region to support the protection of the rights of children in their respective areas.
She said everybody should exert efforts to ensure that the rights of the children are protected.
She said the city has partnered with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) to keep children safe in terms of road safety and infrastructures.
She urged the LGU officials in the region to initiate measures that will protect the children from dangers on the road. (PNA)
