ZAMBOANGA CITY — The city government’s “Exposicion de Viajes en Zamboanga (Zamboanga Travel Exposition)” kicked off Friday with the goal of boosting local tourism.
Led by the City Tourism Office, the three-day activity is being participated in by 25 tourism stakeholders that include destination and travel and tour companies, airline firms, and producers of local products.
City Tourism Officer Sarita Sebastian said Friday the travel exposition aims to provide the stakeholders the opportunity to showcase their tourism-related services to the public, especially tourists.
“They can do selling, they market, they promote their products and services (during the travel expo),” Sebastian said.
Sebastian said that booths have been set up at the east wing of the KCC Mall de Zamboanga where the public can visit and inquire in any tourism-related destinations and activities.
Sebastian said the participants include two airline firms, the Isabela City government, and the Dakak Park and Beach Resort of Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
The exposition includes a quiz bee for students in the elementary, secondary and tertiary, as well as regional dance and costume contests.
“This is one way of conserving, protecting and promoting the culture and tradition of the people in the Zamboanga Peninsula,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sebastian urged owners of emerging tourism destinations, like private resorts, to register with the City Tourism Office to legalize their operation.
“Zamboanga City has many emerging destinations, but they should register so that we can assist them,’ she said. (PNA/With reports from Salvador Santiago)
