KORONADAL CITY — Police authorities have launched a manhunt against an unidentified man who shot dead a businessman from Tantangan town, South Cotabato, in front of a flower shop here Friday afternoon.
Lt. Col. Joefel Siason, chief of the Koronadal City police station, identified the victim as John Togonon, owner of the Rest Heaven Funeral Home in Barangay New Iloilo, Tantangan.
A report released by the station said the victim was buying flowers in a stall beside the Rizal Park in Barangay Zone 4 at about 1 p.m. when he was waylaid by a man.
Based on witnesses’ account, Togonon was about to place the flowers he purchased at the rear cab of his Toyota Hilux pickup with license plate NAE 2967 when the man approached and shot him at least three times.
The gunman reportedly walked casually after the shooting towards the city post office.
Togonon was hit on the head and died on the spot.
The shooting was the second in the city in three days.
A member of the Provincial Security Unit of the provincial government of South Cotabato was gunned down Wednesday morning by two motorcycle-riding men at a traffic stop at a road junction here.
Victim Robert Corneta, 42, who was previously assigned at the provincial jail, was on his way to work at the Provincial Capitol in his white Kia Avella sedan when he was shot at the corner of Arellano Street and General Santos Drive at about 6:45 a.m.
Siason said the investigation on the twin shooting incidents was ongoing. (PNA)
